2018 World Championship News

The Saloon Stock Car Association is delighted to announce that eight places on the grid for the 2018 World Championship will be offered to overseas entrants. In addition to the customary four seeded entries from Northern Ireland, a further four places will be offered to Dutch competitors for the big race at King’s Lynn on 18 August.

In the past year, Dutch promoters Speedway Emmen have been welcomed into the SSCA fold, culminating in the successful staging of the World of Shale at the venue in October. Now Dutch drivers will be able to qualify for the World Championship via their local points chart.

In addition to the eight drivers seeded to the World Final itself, further contenders from Northern Ireland and the Netherlands will have the opportunity to secure places on the grid via the traditional last-chance qualifying race(s) on the night. Overseas drivers will be slotted into the LCQ grid according to their positions on their respective domestic points charts.

Paul Butler, of host promoters Trackstar, said: “We look forward to welcoming our Overseas friends to King’s Lynn for the biggest event in Saloon Stock Car racing next summer. British drivers and teams have been welcomed to Emmen with open arms on their visits this year, and we wish to extend similar hospitality.

“Several drivers from Holland have already enjoyed sampling the smooth shale surface at King’s Lynn this year and we hope to see even more of them in 2018 following this announcement.”
