Farewell #6 Simon Welton

Two-time Saloon Stock Car world champion #6 Simon Welton has expressed his thanks to everyone involved in the sport.

Welton, who announced his retirement from racing during last weekend’s World Final meeting at Cowdenbeath, said: “I’ve made this decision with a very heavy heart. I’ve sold my two cars and it makes me feel quite emotional at times.

“I’ve achieved more than I could have imagined in my racing career and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. I’m proud to have had a lot of hard races with really good drivers, all going at it but with no ill feeling at the end.

“I’ve enjoyed racing at every track up and down the country, so I’d like to thank the promoters, staff and volunteers; the fans who turn up to watch us; and my family, friends and mechanics for all their support. I couldn’t have done it without them.

“Now it’s time for me to put my family first. I’m building a new home for us, which is going to keep me busy.”

The SSCA would like to thank Simon, the first man to win back-to-back world titles on different surfaces, for being a great ambassador for the sport. We wish him a happy retirement and hope to see him at the tracks as often as his other commitments allow.
