Update 16th February 2022
7. BRAKES
The fitment of disc brakes on the rear can only be achieved by use of the original Ford Sierra disc brake style hub or, by use of the Ford Sierra drum brake hub with a calliper mounting bracket that must not increase the axle width.
10. WHEELS
- Only unmodified standard production (no special production versions) 14” - Ford, Citreon or Peugeot steel rims are permitted up to a maximum of 6” width. Peugeot 106 Rallye wheels are not permitted. The SSCA will be monitoring wheel rim offset to ensure the use of standard rims only.
Update 5th March 2020
RULE 3 SUSPENSION – FRONT – STRUT TOPS
The update regarding suspension strut tops in the 2021 SSCA Technical Specifications arose from queries raised over the last 12 months on the depth of the strut top required.
This is simply a clarification. At no point has a car constructor formally approached the SSCA to request the use of non-standard strut tops.
The opening paragraph of all SSCA Technical Specifications state:
When referring to ANY OF THE SALOON STOCK SPECIFICATIONS NOTED HERIN the principle will always be: Unless permission is specifically granted to make modifications or any variation, NOTHING MAY BE DONE TO ALTER OR CHANGE IN ANY WAY THE STANDARD PARTS.
Unless these rules state you CAN do it, you CANNOT do it.
The process of car constructors actively ignoring the above contributed hugely to the decline of car numbers some ten to twelve years ago.
However, as it is now apparent that a number of drivers are using non-standard strut tops the SSCA have agreed to defer this rule until 1 March 2022.
ZETEC ENGINE SPECIFICATION
All drivers are reminded that the full technical specification for the Zetec engine is that of BriSCA F2 and is duly published on the BriSCA F2 website www.BriSCAF2.com
Reference to this has been contained within the SSCA Technical Specifications as published on www.SaloonStockCars.com and in printed versions in 2020 and 2021.
Drivers and engine builders are once again reminded that should you have a query to contact the SSCA before proceeding.
Update 18th May 2020
The SSCA can confirm that once official SSCA race meetings resume, no 13” wheels or tyres will be permitted.
The SSCA would like to thank the sizeable number of drivers who have provided feedback on the 2020 SSCA Technical Specifications.
The whole purpose of making the technical specifications available earlier than usual in their entirety was to gain feedback, most importantly in the area of car construction.
3 Suspension
The following rule change will be deferred to 1 March 2021.
• The maximum retail price for a shock absorber is £95+ VAT and these must valved 50/50.
4 Steelwork/Chassis
The SSCA is aware of more and more ballast being put into cars to achieve the minimum weight, however the feedback has revealed that more is being used than thought.
The proposed 2020 Technical Specifications were not intended to directly outlaw the use of small amounts of steel plate for strengthening, pick up points, diff plate etc, but moreover to prevent large amounts of steel plate being used as ballast in the construction of a car.
The following will now not come into effect until 1 March 2021, and with further feedback the SSCA will adjust the maximum dimensions of plate permitted,
• No ballast is permitted. The maximum thickness plate permitted in the construction of the car is 4mm thick (with the exception of the floor/bulkhead – see below). However, a maximum of 6mm thick steel plate is permitted for suspension pick up points, bell housing support and diff mounting.
• The maximum size of plate permitted for engine mounts is 12mm thick on one individual piece, with the maximum size of plate bolted together being 20mm.
Note the minimum size spring will be 60mm as follows:
To prevent the loss of wheels, a pair of steel truck springs, a minimum of 60mm and a maximum of 90mm deep, must cover the rear wheels.
11 Tyres
Due to an error in the hard copies posted of the 2020 Technical Specifications it needs to be noted that as from 1 May 2020 (not 2019) the 13” A021R Yokohama Tyre will no longer be permitted for use.
The only tyre permitted for use after this date will be the 14” Yokohama A Drive/Blue Earth 185/65/14 (any speed rating).
