TECHNICAL UPDATE – ZETEC CRANK SENSOR HOUSING
Last Updated by Admin 21 February 2025 13:02
The new controlled crank sensor housing is made for use with both the mandated NoDiz and Omex Ignition systems. To avoid unnecessary complications in producing two different housings, one bracket has been manufactured.
Inconsistencies with the original Ford standard housing have been identified which can lead to altered ignition timing, in contravention of the regulations for this engine. The new crank sensor housing is designed to eliminate the angle of the sensor being altered.
The sensor housing is at 90 degrees to the flywheel and this can now be easily checked.
Due to the variety of aftermarket sensors, which differ in length and voltage strength, it is permitted to shim the sensor as before with a washer (there is no restriction on the washer thickness). The washer thickness will vary from sensor to sensor due to the variations in length.
The Omex system operates on analogue style technology and in the majority of cases will work with the new control housing without the above adjustment. The Nodiz Ignition System utilises digital technology and so the sensor fitment may require some adjustment by means of a washer being placed under the sensor as noted above.
All relevant BriSCA F2/SSCA Technical Specifications will be updated regarding this amendment prior to racing commencing on the first weekend in March.
